Welcome to Cawthorne Recreation Trust

Our challenge is to conserve and preserve the beautiful land surrounding the cricket pitch

Who we are
The Trust
Cawthorne Recreation Trust is a registered charity, overseen by a small, dedicated board of local trustees committed to preserving this beautiful hidden gem in our village.
Our Mission
To protect, restore, and revive the land after decades of neglect.

The land we care for

The Trust is responsible for the stretch of land running from the ford at the foot of Cliff Hill to the boundary wall adjoining Cannon Hall.
While the Cricket Club leases and maintains its own grounds, the remaining area is in urgent need of care and restoration.
The area is divided into 3 manageable phases.
We are currently working in Phase 1 with tree management, clearing undergrowth and repairing boundaries. Phase 2 and 3 will follow on.
By organised action we can create a special, accessible and exciting village asset.
PHASE 1
Ecologically restore and enhance
Encourage wildlife, flora, bird and insects to flourish
PHASE 2
Management of woodland and access trail
Management of paths and boundary wall
PHASE 3
Management of overgrown and infected ash trees
Management of paths and boundary wall

What we have done so far
Creating a lasting legacy for everyone to enjoy
This hidden corner of Cawthorne is one of the village’s true treasures—an incredible natural space with huge potential for conservation, education, leisure and community use.
We’ve already taken important first steps:
-
We have already secured some funding with further applications under way
-
A clear action plan is in place
-
Volunteers have begun making a difference on site
But there is much more to do—and we need your help. We’re calling on the community to get involved: share your ideas, skills and expertise, volunteer your time, or even join the committee.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape a lasting legacy for Cawthorne—created by the community, for the community.

Support our village project
We need your support to bring our vision to life and deliver our development plan.
We’re also looking for your ideas and suggestions—how would you like to see this space used? What recreational activities would benefit our community?
This project can only succeed with the backing of our village community. You can help by:
-
Volunteering your time
-
Sharing your skills, knowledge, and expertise
-
Offering financial support
Every contribution—big or small—makes a difference. All support is greatly welcomed. For more information on volunteering or joining as a Trustee, please click the button below:
